In the News: The Boulder Daily Camera
February 27, 2009

The Autumn Film was written up in The Boulder Daily Camera yesterday!
And, in the article they mentioned The Hook Factory and the single “Always the Same” that we produced for them! We just made some tweaks to that mix today and it should drop sometime in the coming weeks.
EP Release: Kyle Galanaugh
November 10, 2008
We’re pleased to announce that The Bergen Park EP has finally been released! Justin and I both co-produced the EP, and were able to bring out Kyle’s vision for these songs. We’re all very happy with how it turned out, and we’ve been receiving some amazing feedback so far. There’s a growing buzz around town about Kyle – and he’s already starting to receive some radio airplay around town on KTCL 93.3 and currently is Alternative 101.5‘s “Artist of the Month”. Make sure to call in and request Kyle’s songs – and be sure to click on the link to the left to purchase the Bergen Park EP from iTunes. We worked very hard on this project – and we hope you like it!
To celebrate the release, KTCL 93.3 put on a show featuring Kyle headlining at The Soiled Dove here in Denver. Local artists Xiren and Almost Legends warmed up a packed crowd, and the reception was great. We were lucky enough to be able to check out the show with guitarist Fernando Curiel, who played electric guitar on the EP. Bassist Jimmy Stofer and drummer Christian Teele (who also played on the record) contributed to Kyle’s band, and did a bang-up job!
There were quite a few sales of the EP at the end of the night, and a few people were sporting the new t-shirts. Overall, it was a great show that really rocked! Make sure to keep an eye on Kyle’s website for more information on upcoming shows.
Until next time…

New studio. New publisher. New adventures.
October 14, 2008
I don’t really know where to start, as there’s about a million things going on right now. But we’ll start with the big news: we’ve moved into a new studio!
After a long search and looking at a number of different spaces, we are pleased to report we’ve moved into a pair of rooms at Immersive Studios in Boulder, Colorado.
As a former house engineer at Immersive, I (Justin) was excited about working there again. The studio has a great vibe and the building itself also houses some other good friends. Wind Over the Earth is a boutique pro audio retail shop owned by Mickey Houlihan, a long time mentor, friend and supplier of tasty gear. Gus Skinas has an amazing studio that is the home base of his Super Audio Center, the place for all things relating to DSD, SACD and 5.1 surround. And, last but not least, you’ll find Airshow Mastering on the east side of the building. Airshow is a top-notch mastering facility staffed by a bunch of great people.
Basically, there’s a ton of great music flowing in and out of this “complex” and a very diverse and talented group of people coming and going. We’re so excited to now be part of this scene.
But first we had to move. With the studio growing in one place for the past few years, we didn’t realize how much stuff we had. But we got packed up and started early Wednesday morning last week. And that’s when a miracle occurred.
You see, musicians rarely get up early in the morning. In fact, they hardly ever get up in the morning…period. So when I called Kyle Galanaugh–our artist whose EP is about to be released–and told him to be at the house at 7AM with his pickup truck to help us move, I never imagined he’d make it. But, right on time, he showed up, with his girlfriend’s dog (of all things) for moral support. It’s a pomeranian, I believe, and has a penchant for running off into the woods.
Also on deck to help us move was Mr. Michael St. James (publisher, musician and all-around cool guy).
Before the move started, I stopped by Einstein’s for coffee and a dozen fresh bagels to motivate the moving crew, which turned out to work very nicely. Another minor miracle occurred, and we fit 95% of our guitars, amps, drums, microphones, cables, stands, furniture, etc. in ONE LOAD. And we were off to Boulder…
Moving in went smoothly and after about a 15 hour day we had everything in a basically set up. We came back the next day to get all of the patching and testing done, and Kyle even helped with decorating, lighting, and interior design.
Our “producer’s studio” consists of two rooms: a control room and a tracking room. Check out the pics below…
We’re extremely excited about the room, the vibe and having such a creative space. With Studio 6 (a world-class studio) right next door, we have absolutely everything our artists, bands and clients might need. Oh, and to really round things out, we now have a Chemex coffee maker at the studio.
We are also excited to announce that we are joining forces with St. James Media, a publishing company headed by Michael St. James. We really look forward to working with him on writing, recording and licensing original music for television, film and other commercial projects. Michael is tremendously talented and motivated, and is a great fit for what we do here at The Hook Factory.
Stay tuned for more to come!
The Update: Mastering and fall bookings…
September 19, 2008
So, Kyle’s project just got back from mastering in LA by none other than Brian “Big Bass” Gardner. Brian does amazing work and we were so excited to have him give the final polish on this project.
In other news, we’re booking for fall. What About Pluto? is going into preproduction in a few weeks for their EP, and we’re getting closer to booking several other artists for the fall.
We’re also excited about our new Focal Twin6 studio monitors. I (Justin) reviewed them for Recording Magazine and was totally surprised by them. After getting used to them we realized they were the monitor for us. Still keeping the NS-10′s around, but I’m loving going back and forth between both sets.
Lastly, there’s some other really huge news that we’ll be announcing in another week or so… Stay tuned!
